Policy on re-use
We understand that manuscripts published in SCT Proceedings in Interdisciplinary Insights and Innovations often represent ongoing work in progress. Additionally, we recognize that proceedings papers may later be updated, revised, or expanded for publication as regular journal articles, including submissions to journals outside of our publication. We do not object to authors judiciously reusing content from their conference proceedings manuscripts, provided that such reuse adheres to the principles, ethical standards, and professional guidelines of scientific publishing.
Journal manuscripts derived from work previously published in proceedings must contain a substantial amount of new or previously unpublished findings. Articles that are nearly identical to their original proceedings manuscripts are not acceptable for publication, as dual publication (whether intentional or accidental)may negatively impact an author’s publication record. Each journal will independently assess whether the reuse of proceedings content is fair and reasonable or if there is sufficient additional material to justify a new publication.
To assist journal editors and referees in making informed decisions, authors who reuse content from their proceedings manuscripts must provide a copy of the original proceedings article at the time of submission. Authors should also include a clear statement describing the material reproduced from the proceedings manuscript. Furthermore, it is the authors' responsibility to notify all co-authors listed on the proceedings manuscript about any submission based on the original proceedings article.
When deriving a journal article from a proceedings manuscript, authors must include a proper citation to the original proceedings article, regardless of its publication status. This citation demonstrates adherence to this policy, ensures transparency, and promotes openness in scientific publishing.
