The theory of the social construction of reality allows us to postulate one of the main functions of journalism in contemporary society: its capacity to produce truths and, consequently, to identify the problems that human groups face in the political, economic and social spheres. This is one of the reasons why the systematic study of the press becomes relevant. However, of this production of reality, there is rarely any research into how journalism produces the memory of societies, commemorates their history and enters into the web of disputes about the past as social discourse. This paper proposes an introductory approach to memory studies applied to journalism and how to interpret this relationship.
