In Ecuador, climate change and the global energy crisis have highlighted the importance of alternative fuels as a sustainable solution to the depletion of fossil resources. This study explored how options such as biofuels, solar and wind energy, and hydrogen could mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports. While these technologies offer benefits, they also face technical, economic and social challenges. The research analysed the performance of these alternatives through a comprehensive assessment that included case studies, economic analysis, opinion surveys and expert interviews. The results showed that biofuels and renewable energies have the potential to diversify Ecuador's energy matrix, improve quality of life and promote economic and environmental sustainability. However, their mass adoption requires targeted public policies, economic incentives, education and further scientific research. The study concluded that the transition to alternative fuels is essential to mitigate the impacts of climate change, improve public health and ensure resilient development. Collaboration between governments, business and civil society will be key to overcoming current challenges and building a cleaner, more sustainable future.
