In the 2023-2024 period, Ecuador faced important challenges in the automotive industry related to sustainability and technological innovation, most notably the problem of overheating internal combustion engines. This phenomenon negatively impacted vehicle efficiency, increased pollutant emissions and aggravated operating costs. In regions such as the coast and the east, high temperatures intensified this problem, while in the highlands, factors such as lower oxygen levels affected engine performance. Research showed that poor maintenance of radiators and coolant lines contributed to overheating, highlighting the need for more efficient cooling systems. Although the importation of modern vehicles introduced advanced technologies, the country's predominantly older vehicle fleet increased the incidence of the problem. In addition, international studies showed that overheating deteriorated the lubricating oil, accelerating the oxidation and wear of engine parts. Measures were proposed such as strengthening public policies, renewing the vehicle fleet, encouraging preventive maintenance and promoting local research on solutions adapted to Ecuadorian conditions. This approach sought not only to mitigate the environmental impact, but also to consolidate a more efficient and sustainable automotive sector
