Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional research was carried out, the universe coincides with the sample of 831 women evaluated in the municipal consultation of genetic preconceptional risk. Theoretical, empirical and descriptive statistical methods were used, given in absolute and relative numbers.
Results: 31.41% of the women were evaluated with increased genetic preconceptional risk, 51.19% were due to congenital defects followed by chromosomopathies and hereditary conditions in 15.23%. Based on the diagnosis obtained, a strategy with a community approach is proposed to reduce the risk.
